tinman WIP

work in progress - this has a long way to go still before it's a portfolio piece, but I've learned a ton on it.

rendering tests! WahOOOOOooo

I've never actually rendered anything with great results, so I put myself to work last night - I haven't slept in the last 20 hours or so. These tests are the fruits of my labor - they don't look like much, but I've learned a ton. More to come soon!

Tinman sketches and WIP design ideas

These were som preliminary designs for the head - I'm still liking some of the things I've got going on here - even with the rough body sketch.
I'm pretty happy with how this is turning out. I didn't really sketch this out beforehand and so it's not as well designed as I'd like it to be. I really want this to feel like it was built by the best engineers of Oz for the tinman. I feel like the Oz theme should push the design to a sleeker, more graceful shape while having a more crazy mechanical/steampunk element to it.
I'm debating on whether I'll keep the furnace-belly. I like the idea of it, but I may decide on scrapping it as I redesign the overall look.
I'm liking the blue/green hue in the metal - I think I'll be keeping it, but maybe adding more of an oil-stained look
I'm planning on moving away from this design a bit and trying to get more of a darker, grittier look to the overall design. Here his shapes are a little too clean I feel.

Another head

Here's another head - I've decided to set myself a goal to draw 100 heads as per a challenge I saw on a great video found here: http://www.ctrlpaint.com/draw-100/

I'll try and post all drawings here as I go.

I don't think I'll be counting any of the heads I've posted since none we're drawn from life, but I'll let you know when I begin... I'll have to set myself a timeline too.

time for a scanner...

Just some head sketches I've done in the past week. I should probably start drawing from life and not my head. I realize after taking a step back that these look a little wacky...

Digital Paint WIP - cat's cradle

trying to get back into the swing of digital painting - not that I was ever that great to begin with, but I definitely need to practice if I want to be prepared for the class this coming semester.

Addison's Arms and Hands

I was going for a feminine, yet weathered look on the hands. She's got thick, calloused skin on the palms of her hands and on the pads of her fingers, while hopefully still preserving the overall slenderness of a woman's hands. I'm especially excited to see this thing rigged and posed, it's always a bit of a buzz-kill to model in a neutral pose!
